Knots in timber are a mark or scar caused by the growth of a branch from the main body of the tree. Tight knots are stable and are a result of a living branch present at harvest. Loose knots are unstable and often fall out of the plank. They are a result of branch that has died or broken away. Oak Cover Strips

Solid Hardwood Decorative Capping/Joining Pieces for All DIY Projects

Similar in many ways to Oak Corner Bead, our Cover Strips are multipurpose solid hardwood mouldings designed to be used in a variety of ways on your DIY project. Ranging from joining floors together to covering untidy cut edges and everything in between. Especially useful when used alongside the ever fashionable wood panelling as a way to join or finish panels. Available in multiple widths and lengths for maximum flexibility.

All About - Grading

Let's keep it simple. We only use Prime Grade timber.

The best from the most prestigious and reliable suppliers across the globe. Hardwood is never perfect, but ours is close.

All About - Oak

Oak is a hardwood of the Quercus genus and comes in many different species.

At Weatherbar we only use Prime Grade American White, American Red & European Oak species. Oak is strong, hard and mechanically sound making it the ideal timber for construction materials, flooring and furniture.

Sawdust & Recycling

In an attempt to reduce our carbon footprint and be as environmentally friendly as possible, we collect all of our chippings and sawdust to make in to briquettes.

These briquettes are then sold or used to heat our factory during the winter!

Sustainability: Our Promise

Sadly, we live in a world where the origin of some timber (particularly hardwoods) cannot always be verified. Especially exotic hardwood that comes in to the UK from the Far East, South America & Africa.

Deforestation and the illegal harvesting of timber is a serious issue and should be a concern to everyone as the stewards of our planet. This is the reason we take such a hard stance on the origin of the timber materials we use.

Through the various industrial bodies that are available, we strive to ensure all of the timber we use has been removed from forests and woodland in a responsible and ethical manner. That way we can pass on peace of mind to our customers that everything you buy from us is sustainable and certified.

Fixing Instructions:
Oak Coverstrips - 20, 34, 44 & 66mm Widths

Minimal preparation, beautiful finish. Fix & forget philosophy, walk away without worry of having to return to replace or repair our products.

Tools Required

Tools you'll need for the job:

  • Tape Measure
  • Hand saw
  • High grab adhesive

Take your time, prepare well, measure twice and cut once!

Weatherbar Coverplate profiles are quick and easy to fit if you follow our method for getting it right first time around. Ensure that your working area is clean from dust and debris, ideally when sticking the profile down the surface needs to be as clean and flat as possible. Double check your perimeter expansion gaps aren't too wide or gap between your floors isn't too big for the selected profile. If using as a bridging profile between two surfaces, walls or floors, please make sure that they're at the same height, thickness or level. If not, the profile will not sit flat and could lift at the edge.

Method

1.Measure (Twice)

Our initial recommended starting point for any DIY is to ALWAYS measure and measure again. Even the most experienced DIYers and tradespeople make errors at this stage and it's such an easy thing to overlook!

2.Preparation

Start with a clean and debris free substrate floor. This will allow for the high grab adhesive to bond with the floor/skirting/wall and profile. Once dust free and you're happy with the position the profile needs to sit, apply a bead of high grab adhesive to the back of the profile. If using pins, ensure there are no wires or pipes behind the skirting and double check the nail length is long enough but not too long! If you have it available, a high strength double sided tape can be a viable fixing option.

3.Fixing

If you using adhesive, apply to the back of the profile where the coverplate will touch the floor/skirting/wall and push in to place. Try to keep some pressure on the profile until the adhesive has grabbed. If using pins/nails as well, make sure that you direct them slightly downwards when knocking them in. This will reduce the chance of splitting and/or becoming visible if started too close to the top.

4.Fixed

When fixed, the coverplate should be attached to the floor/skirting or wall. The coverplate should be flat and square without any gap between the floor, wall or skirting. This will help prevent dust and debris building up between the two sides.
