High Strength Aluminium Coverplate for Bridging Gaps on Floors & Walls
Weatherbar Aluminium Coverplate is a contract grade profile designed for bridging large gaps on floors and walls. The profile is cranked past 180 degrees to allow for slight variances in the two different surface heights. Grooved on top to add anti slip properties and supplied with an unfinished raw surface which can be brushed, polished, powder coated or anodised. Manufactured from top grade T6 6063 Aluminium.
High Grade Aluminium, the perfect metal solution for strength and longevity
Aluminium is an element with the atomic number of 13. Only Oxygen and Silicone are more abundant in the Earth’s crust. Due to its spare spaces in its electron ring, Aluminium is extremely reactive. This means that it is rarely found in its unbound natural state. Instead Al is nearly always found bound to minerals, most commonly occurring in Bauxite (a rock often containing Aluminium, Iron and Titanium). Malleable, anti-corrosive and abundant, Aluminium is perfect for non-structural or weight bearing metal products. We use the highest grade T6063 T6 Aluminium alloyed with Magnesium and Silicone for our products.
Minimal preparation, beautiful finish. Fix & forget philosophy, walk away without worry of having to return to replace or repair our products.
Tools you'll need for the job:
Weatherbar Coverplate profiles are quick and easy to fit if you follow our method for getting it right first time around. Ensure that your working area is clean from dust and debris, ideally when sticking the profile down the surface needs to be as clean and flat as possible. Double check your perimeter expansion gaps aren't too wide or gap between your floors isn't too big for the selected profile. If using as a bridging profile between two surfaces, walls or floors, please make sure that they're within a few millimetres of level. The metal coverplate can accommodate small variations between levels but the flatter the better.
Our initial recommended starting point for any DIY is to ALWAYS measure and measure again. Even the most experienced DIYers and tradespeople make errors at this stage and it's such an easy thing to overlook!
Start with a clean and debris free substrate floor. This will allow for the high grab adhesive to bond with the floor/skirting/wall and profile. Once dust free and you're happy with the position the profile needs to sit, apply a bead of high grab adhesive to the back of the profile. If using pins, ensure there are no wires or pipes behind the skirting and double check the nail length is long enough but not too long! If you have it available, a high strength double sided tape can be a viable fixing option.
If you using adhesive, apply to the back of the profile where the coverplate will touch the floor/skirting/wall and push in to place. Try to keep some pressure on the profile until the adhesive has grabbed. If using screws to fix, we advise drilling pilot holes if fixing to timber. This can help prevent the wood splitting when screwed. Various pre-prepared screw holes are available to order on the metal coverplate to make fixing easier.
When fixed, the coverplate should be attached to the floor/skirting or wall. The coverplate should be flat and square without any gap between the floor, wall or skirting. This will help prevent dust and debris building up between the two sides.
